About the Organization

The Yukon‑Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) is a Tribal health care organization serving nearly 30,000 people across rural southwest Alaska. Bethel, the regional hub with the only hospital in the region, serves more than 7,000 residents and a broad range of rural communities.

Position Summary

As a Tobacco Prevention Coordinator you will work closely with the Tobacco Prevention Program Manager, departmental staff, local and regional partners, and the community to reduce tobacco use prevalence through prevention efforts. You will plan, coordinate, and organize tobacco‑related health promotion activities in the YK Delta Region, including education of adults and children, community events, media outreach, and classroom presentations. The role requires travel to villages, partnership development with tribal councils and school administrators, and the creation of collaborative relationships with local and statewide organizations.

Position

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the tobacco prevention and cessation field; a public health degree preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in research, community advocacy, policy development, or tobacco taxation—preferably in a multicultural, rural health care setting.
  • Knowledge or experience in tobacco control/smoking cessation highly valued.
  • Current license, certification, or registration if applicable.
  • Proficient computer skills, including email, MS Office, and data‑analysis software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, public speaking, strong collaboration and interpersonal abilities, and knowledge of health‑promotion methods. Proficiency in Yup’ik/Cup’ik is a significant advantage.
