With training, this position will be able to provide primary (acute, chronic, and preventative) health care and emergency care to those seeking health services in an assigned village, primarily through the village’s clinic or clients home with occasional emergency medical services transport. The goal of this position is to provide an opportunity for an employee to complete progressive Community Health Aide training, and ultimately complete the requirements to become a Community Health Practitioner.
JOBDUTIES
- Compliance with the Health Aide curriculum, statewide CHAP guidelines, EMS standards, OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA.
- Compliance with all CRNA Policies & Procedures, Employee Handbook, and Safety policies.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information.
- Assess, treat, and refer patients seeking health care for the acute illness utilizing the Community Health Aide (CHA) Manual, in consultation with an oversight provider or in accordance with active standing orders.
- Must work with designated physician to maintain current standing orders. Must maintain State CHA Certification.
- Must only perform duties allowable at the present session level and scope for that level.
- Assesses, treats, monitors, patients following the protocols in the CHAM. Refers, and sets up transports for those patients needing further treatment as appropriate.
- Will receive training and be expected to use the X-ray machine to perform digital imaging.
- Provide emergent healthcare services including evaluation, treatment, and follow-up under the guidance from the statewide CHA Program and regional medical director.
- In conjunction with Association, State, and Federal health workers, provides preventative care to pregnant women, infants, and children. Appropriate to the CHA’s level of training, participates in providing prenatal care, well child care, immunizations, and health screening activities.
- Provide health screening through prenatal, well-born and school child evaluations, immunizations and TB testing in cooperation with other providers.
- Performs and interprets routine, specific laboratory tests
- Provides education for patients and/or families regarding cause, treatment, prevention of illness, and promotion of health.
- Provide patient education, screening, and follow-up regarding STD’s, family planning, and other health related conditions.
- Coordinate preventive dental program, and complete routine health testing, breast exams, blood pressure, etc.
- Monitors the status of chronically or terminally ill patients in the village. Monitors patients on continuous medications. Make home visits as necessary.
- Consult with and advise medical staff and committees on the Alaska Community Health Aide/ Practitioner Manual (CHAM, iCHAM, eCHAM).
- Manages assigned village clinic facility.
- Performs regular inventories of the clinic pharmacy and supplies; orders drugs, supplies, and equipment as necessary. Maintains supplies and equipment following standard procedures. Insure sanitary clinic environment.
- Documentation of all patient encounters in the approved format.
- Maintain orderly and confidential system of medical records and clinic logs and community health records.
- Prepares and submits weekly reports, as required
- Arranges transportation for patients when appropriate.
- Maintain regular clinic hours for the routine and non-emergency care. Available for emergency care during non-clinic hours, and on-call as needed.
- Assists itinerant health care workers providing services to the village.
- Submits patient/client encounter report to immediate supervisor weekly.
- Attend trainings and respond to emergencies as required.
- Greet visitors, staff and others in person or on the phone, in a professional courteous manner; direct visitors as appropriate.
- Willing to travel and cover other village clinics including Mentasta and Cantwell.
- Ability to work on-call hours as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successfully complete or have completed the TABE test.
- Certified EMT I or higher, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
