Behavioral Health Aide Trainee - Mentasta

SUMMARY

This position is based in Mentasta and provides community‑support and clinically supervised behavioral health services to residents of the village. The defined scope of practice provides services to village residents, including, but not limited to, prevention, early intervention, case management, aftercare and follow‑up for individuals and families impacted by a variety of behavioral health and addiction services and other issues in the communities of the Copper River Region.

This role will include a developing scope of community‑based services for Elders and youth. These elements will be implemented thoughtfully over time. Specific activities will be determined through ongoing assessment of community needs and available resources. This position is closely supervised by the Clinical Director to ensure services are being provided in a consistent and appropriate method. This is strictly a trainee position.

JOB

DUTIES
  • Coordinate and/or support all prevention, education, outreach activities in the villages, as well as community and CRNA events. Various events and outreach will be after regular business hours.
  • Deliver case management services and provide referral and resources, when appropriate.
  • Coordinate inpatient detox and rehabilitation services with outside facilities.
  • Run a weekly psycho‑educational group under the supervision of the Clinical Director.
  • Coordinate and monitor clients’ participation and progress.
  • Assist clients in managing mental health needs and services.
  • Maintain monthly contact with clients to ensure needs are being met.
  • Provide initial client screening and intake process and address any barriers to care.
  • Maintain client records and document all contact in Cerner thoroughly and appropriately.
  • Provide support for Elder‑focused services and activities, which may include congregate meals, social engagement opportunities, or wellness‑related gatherings, at a frequency determined through ongoing assessment.
  • Provide support for youth engagement activities as assigned, which may include educational, cultural, recreational, or wellness‑focused programming, with specific activities and scheduling to be determined through collaborative planning and community need.
  • Participate in annual needs assessment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native cultures and politics.
  • Good communication skills, oral and written, to interact with clients and families.
  • Knowledge about cultural differences and their impact.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer services.
  • Knowledge of multi‑line telephone systems operation.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must complete all BHA I classes within 1 year and three months of hire date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in the Alaska Tribal Health System.
  • One‑year experience in behavioral health, substance abuse services, or community wellness program.

The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 25 lbs. The majority of work is performed in an office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. CRNA is a smoke free and tobacco free campus. May require local travel between compact services of CRNA which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions.

Works in an environment where protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided when and where needed.
