Overview
At Pursuit, the Assistant General Manager at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge supports the General Manager by leading all lodge operations. The role oversees front office, housekeeping, food & beverage, retail, staff housing, accounting, cash control, and the overall guest experience in this iconic Alaskan lodge.
Responsibilities- Lead and develop managers and team members to deliver elevated, genuine guest service across all departments.
- Assist with setting rates and managing tour blocks in partnership with reservations and inventory control.
- Ensure the safety and security of guests and staff; serve as head of the Safety Committee.
- Support the lodge in meeting or exceeding standards for guest service, product quality, safety, cleanliness, and maintenance.
- Ensure team members complete required guest service and safety training.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management for leaders and team members.
- Ensure all groups are properly set up and billed, including vouchers, rooming lists, and accurate folios.
- Partner closely with the Food & Beverage team to support restaurant operations, including service standards, staffing, and health and safety compliance.
- Help ensure cash is secured, deposits are made regularly, and all accounting paperwork is submitted accurately and on time.
- Support facilities and maintenance teams in ensuring all buildings are properly and safely maintained to Pursuit standards.
- Review guest feedback, identify themes, and support action plans to improve the guest experience.
- Monitor daily occupancy to ensure rooms are cleaned and available by standard check‑in time.
- Act as primary backup to the General Manager for all aspects of lodge operations when required.
- Coordinate and execute pre‑season opening and post‑season closing plans for Rooms, F&B, Retail, and housing with a focus on safety, efficiency, and anticipation.
- Ensure driving records and documentation for all team members operating company vehicles are current and compliant.
- Confirm all departments complete and document required role‑specific training.
- Perform other duties as assigned, aligned with lodge and Alaska Collection priorities.
- Strong knowledge of front office, housekeeping, and food & beverage operations.
- Understanding of maintenance, sanitation, and safety standards in rooms and F&B.
- Experience maintaining high guest experience standards through clear expectations, coaching, and follow‑up.
- Knowledge of hospitality human resources practices.
- Familiarity with hospitality marketing, financial analysis, and Alaska Collection planning processes.
- Proficiency with computers, F&B software, databases, and spreadsheets; strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information clearly to decision makers.
- Excellent organizational, time‑management, and follow‑up skills; high attention to detail.
- Ability to make sound decisions, solve problems, prioritize under pressure, and stay calm in busy periods.
- Proven ability to build relationships and work effectively with leaders, team members, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to design, communicate, and evaluate policies and procedures related to excellent customer service, and to train and mentor others on those standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams to achieve Alaska Collection goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of the Alaska tourism industry, including key partners and industry influences.
- High degree of discretion and respect for confidential information.
- Strong leadership, management, and supervisory skills.
- Physical abilities: work long hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays; sit or stand for extended periods; work in all weather; lift up to 50lbs.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to legally enter Canada.
- 5+ years of hotel front office and/or food & beverage management, catering management/sales, or a combination of management experience and education that provides the required skills and knowledge.
- Strong working knowledge of modern front office operations and restaurant management methods.
- Proven track record of delivering both profit and guest satisfaction in hospitality and/or F&B.
- Experience in purchasing, corporate administration, people/HR, or accounting is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and passport.
- Ability to legally enter Canada.
- Ability to obtain and maintain:
- Alaska Training for Alcohol Professionals (TAP) certification
- First Aid and CPR certification
- State of Alaska Food Worker Card
- Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
