Position: Employee Accommodation Specialist

Are you ready for your next HR challenge? The University of Alaska is seeking an Employee Accommodation Specialist to support workplace accommodations across the organization. In this role, you will serve as a primary point of contact for employees and supervisors, partner closely with Leaves, Labor & Employee Relations, and HR colleagues to ensure compliance with federal and state laws while managing accommodation cases.

You will oversee the interactive process for assigned cases, review documentation, and provide clear, consistent, and legally defensible determinations.

To thrive in this role, you must balance compliance, organization, and clear communication. You bring working knowledge of the ADA, PWFA, Section 504, and related laws, along with the ability to apply them in practical situations. You are comfortable managing multiple cases, navigating sensitive situations, and exercising sound judgment in day-to-day decision‑making. You communicate effectively with employees and supervisors, provide guidance through the interactive process, collaborate with HR partners as needed, maintain thorough documentation, protect confidentiality, and identify opportunities to improve processes and consistency.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field and two years progressively responsible professional human resources experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Direct experience with accommodations.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred.
Position Details

This is a full‑time, exempt staff position with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
