The Community Relations Specialist serves as a link between the organization and local stakeholders. Responsibilities include assisting in: development and implementation of the organization’s stakeholder engagement and communications plan and related materials, facilitating stakeholder relations to include the site’s grant making processes, promoting and protecting the reputation of Kinross through effective social performance, while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ key values as a safety and sustainability focused mining company.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist the CR Manager in the development of the site’s annual stakeholder engagement, social responsibility, and communications plans.
  • Support the site’s Community Investment Committee, production of investment plan, philanthropy reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in development and tracking of annual department budget to include advertising and marketing, public relations, and giving.
  • Foster positive, meaningful, trust-based relationships with Alaska Native communities near our operations.
  • Develop and coordinate outreach programs, special events, tours, and opportunities for positive exposure in the local and statewide community.
  • Coordinate the site’s advertising, social media, marketing efforts and strategy.
  • Attend mine related and community events as needed to establish contacts with the organizations and community.
  • Participate in and/or serve on local relevant trade group or non-profit boards or committees, as needed.
  • Accurate and timely completion of reports, including overseeing compilation of the quarterly Site Responsibility Plan report.
  • Responsible for timely updates to applicable Teams channels, spreadsheets, team calendars, and data tracking platforms (Borealis).
  • Incorporate social performance plans, policies, and principles into daily work in accordance with Kinross’ Social Performance Management System and Standards.
  • Support external communications at Kinross Alaska sites; develop and maintain media and stakeholder contact lists, and communications with these groups in coordination with site leadership, the U.S. External Affairs Director, and Corporate Communications teams.
  • Assist in the development of site fact sheets, key messaging, brochures, advisories, and other collateral materials and assist in management of marketing contractors.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including data compilation, writing, and proofreading.
  • Participate in program development activities and compliance audits and assurances as appropriate.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Provide internal communication support to site leadership; lead in production of a regular internal and external newsletter.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Perform other tasks, projects and duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience Education
  • Bachelor's degree in social responsibility, public relations, marketing, resource management, communications, or related field preferred. Experience in mining or other resource industries preferred
Experience
  • Significant career experience in communications, public affairs and/or business development may be considered as a substitute for education.
