POSITION SUMMARY
Performs professional nursing duties in the care of adult and pediatric patients in emergency room setting. Floats to medical/surgical, pediatric, and obstetric settings as directed for staffing needs. Works with nursing leadership during medical evacuation situations. Reports directly to the Clinical Nurse Coordinator ED.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Initiates and utilizes the nursing processes to meet the holistic needs of the patient and family while adhering to the professional standards set forth by the American Nurses’ Association.Observes the patient’s clinical condition: recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious and/or emergent situations while initiating appropriate nursing interventions.Develops and implements patient/family teaching programs based on mutually identified health care goals.Documents all observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures administered, and status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines.Evaluates the patient’s plan of care and revises plan as needed.Safeguards the patient’s right to privacy by judiciously protecting information in a confidential manner.Understands the developmental needs of all patients throughout the continuum of life; is able to adjust care to those needs; and documentation reflects this understanding.Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual nursing judgments and actions.Provides guidance and leadership to other personnel in the form of in‑services and orientation/preceptorship and participates in committee activities.Assumes charge nurse duties as assigned, including staffing, supervision and decision‑making responsibilities.When qualified, volunteers to participate in emergency medevac procedures as needed.Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement activities.Utilizes incident and medication error reporting protocols per MHC policies.Participates in continuing education activities.Facilitates patient care across multiple disciplines, departments, and other non‑MHC agencies through referrals and other business operations.Stays alert to patient and staff safety needs at all times, and completes reports as needed in SQSS.Documents appropriate fields in Cerner and telemetry strips.Embraces MHC’s customer services model.JOB QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associates degree in Nursing from an Accredited College. Must have RN license in good standing and be eligible to apply for an Alaska licensure as a Registered Nurse. AHA BLS required. Must be willing to get AHA ACLS and AHA PALS training within 6 months of hire. OB RN must have NRP AAP/AHA and AWHONN fetal monitoring. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and spend long periods standing or walking.
Must be able to maintain annual core competencies.
