The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting
for a Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 located in Dutch Harbor, Alaska!
What You Will Be Doing:
This 12-month full time permanent Fish and Wildlife Technician 3 position provides essential support to the management of commercial shellfish and groundfish fisheries in the Bering Sea–Aleutian Islands.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and editing ADF&G commercial shellfish and groundfish fish tickets to ensure tickets are accurate and complete, entering and batching electronic and conventional fish tickets in eLandings (interagency electronic reporting system for commercial fishery landings in Alaska), and generating final commercial fishery harvest reports using ADF&G’s Ocean
AK database as needed by ADF&G staff and other agencies. Primary commercial fisheries include Bering Sea–Aleutian Islands king crab, Tanner crab, snow crab, Dungeness crab, Pacific cod, sablefish, and rockfish. - Maintaining contact with processing plant fish ticket staff concerning reporting requirements, updates on new fish ticket reporting methods, and revisions/additions to state regulations.
- Assisting fishery management biologists in tracking shellfish and groundfish fisheries through eLandings and Ocean
AK by verifying that all fish tickets have been received, verifying that the correct Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission (CFEC) permit card was used, and the management program is correct. When necessary, contact processing plant staff for any missing fish tickets and/or incorrect or missing information. - Assisting with determining if commercial fishing regulatory violations have occurred and if so, notify the supervisor for this position and, with guidance, contact the Alaska Wildlife Troopers (AWT) and/or National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Office of Law Enforcement (OLE). Notarize and provide copies of registrations, fish tickets, and any other pertinent information.
- Assisting office staff by answering phones and assisting the public by providing information concerning fisheries management, regulatory information, openings and closures of shellfish and groundfish fisheries, as well as answering a broad variety of questions on commercial, subsistence, and sport fish regulations. Other miscellaneous duties include notarizing state documents, checking for mail, assisting office staff with commercial shellfish/groundfish vessel registrations, and dockside sampling as needed.
Occasional opportunity to participate in at-sea surveys to collect shellfish/groundfish biological data.
