Groundskeeper; Winter

the employee occupying this position is responsible for the removal of snow from all city buildings, sidewalks, ada ramps, bike paths, and parking lots.

the groundskeeper is a seasonal position and is expected to assist the grounds maintenance foreperson in the normal day-to-day activities. Work is normally done manually or with the assistance of equipment. Tasks will vary; however, each particular task is generally of a highly routine nature and performed according to readily available standards and guidelines. Tasks performed outside the normal routine are received orally or in writing.

• performs grounds maintenance to include snow removal, salting, ice chipping and sanding of sidewalks, parking lots, pathways and city buildings.
• responsible for safe work practices and the use of personal protection equipment.
• operates riding snow removal machines, plow trucks, sanders, and small tools used for snow removal.
• responsible for the care and maintenance of tools and equipment, and the safe operation of vehicles, tools and equipment.
• performs general cleanup of grounds and collects and disposes of litter and empties trash receptacles as needed.
• loads and unloads equipment from trailers or light trucks. Transports equipment to and from various work sites.
• performs other related general maintenance work as assigned by the ground's maintenance foreman.

• high school diploma or equivalent.
• must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• valid alaska driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• ability to operate equipment and use tools in a skillful and safe manner.
• ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
• physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work.
• ability to work as a member of a team working towards a common goal.
• ability to multi-task to perform and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• ability to meet attendance requirements for the position.
