SAI - Hot Dog Cart Operator (Part-time, Seasonal)
Shee Atika Inc. is seeking an energetic, customer-focused hot dog cart operator to prepare and serve Alaskan Reindeer hot dogs, salmon bites, and other quick menu items while acting as a friendly ambassador for park attractions. This role combines food service skills with salesmanship and cultural story-sharing. The ideal candidate is friendly, engaging, thrives in a fast‑paced outdoor environment, ensures food safety, and delivers exceptional hospitality.
Position:
Part‑time seasonal, starting April 1st and continuing through mid‑October 2026.
Location:
Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal; hot dog cart represents Sheet’ká Rainforest Park.
- Prepare and serve hot dogs, salmon bites, and other menu items with attention to quality and presentation.
- Maintain high standards of food quality through consistency, presentation, and portion control.
- Safely operate and maintain the hot dog cart.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Maintain proper inventory, order and manage supplies efficiently.
- Set up and break down the truck for service, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
- Engage guests with warmth and professionalism, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
- Promote and sell park attractions, including Sheet’ká Salmon Tales and Sheet’ká Treetop Adventures, by sharing details and answering questions.
- Respond to guest needs and resolve minor issues quickly and courteously.
- Accurately handle pricing and payment processing for a smooth customer experience.
- Coordinate with Sheet’ká Rainforest Park staff to ensure seamless tour operations, including scheduling transportation and accommodating specific guest needs.
- Share the story behind the menu, highlighting the heritage and traditions of Sitka and the Tlingit people through food and conversation.
- Introduce visitors to the cultural significance of Sitka’s rainforest, ocean, and tidelands, and their connection to Tlingit heritage.
- Serve as an ambassador for local culture, ensuring every interaction reflects respect and authenticity.
- Authorisation to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
- Ability to obtain an Alaska Food Worker Card within 14 days of hire.
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, point‑of‑sales (POS) systems.
- Customer service experience.
- Prior experience in food service or hospitality.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Knowledge of Alaska culture and seafood traditions is a plus (training provided).
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
