PART TIME:
Position Overview The Remediation Coordinator supports the Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska’s environmental remediation program by assisting with project planning, fieldwork, data management, reporting, and community outreach. This role helps advance Tribal priorities related to environmental protection, environmental remediation, and community well-being. Working closely with the Remediation Manager, the Coordinator plays a key role in implementing projects, ensuring compliance, and supporting sustainable development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Conduct site assessments to identify contamination and environmental risks, including timely surveys and inventories of FUD sites.
Support project planning, tracking, and implementation, including work plans, timelines,and budgets
Assist with grant reporting, regulatory compliance, and tracking project deliverables
Collect, organize, and manage environmental and project-related data Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and project documentation
Maintain accurate project files, records, and databases
Assist with logistics for meetings, workshops, field activities, and procurement
Support community outreach and education through events, presentations, and communication materials
Collaborate with Tribal staff, partners, and community members
Supervise seasonal technicians or interns as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or a related field ora combination of relevant experience and Traditional Ecological Knowledge
P.O. Box 334 Unalaska, Alaska 99685 FAX –3 years of experience in environmental project support, fieldwork, or outreach preferred
Experience working with Tribal governments or Alaska Native Organizations preferred
Skills and Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Basic understanding of environmental principles, data collection, and reporting methods.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications Traditional Knowledge Experience in rural or Tribal communities
GIS experience
Familiarity with environmental issues in Unalaska, Alaska
Experience with data management, analysis, and government agencies
Maintain accurate records, project files, deliverables, and databases to support accountability and transparency.
Assist in coordinating logistics for project activities, such as meetings, workshops, and fieldwork.
Assist in the preparation of grant applications, budgets, and timelines to meet project requirements.
Stakeholder/Community Engagement and Outreach:
Assist with organizing community outreach and educational events, such as workshops, presentations, and public meetings.
Coordinate with other Environmental Coordinators and Tribal staff to ensure alignment across programs.
Support cross-departmental efforts to integrate environmental, cultural, and wellness goals.
Compliance and Reporting:
Assist in ensuring project compliance with applicable environmental and grant regulations and permits.
Support the preparation and submission of regulatory reports and other required documentation.
Maintain awareness of relevant environmental and grant regulations and best practices.
