Security Officer - University Police Department

Carnegie Mellon University Police Department (UPD) seeks Security Officers to protect the CMU community. The role requires flexible scheduling, mandatory overtime, and ongoing duty tours.

• Conduct watch person rounds of university buildings and areas to ensure safety and security.
• Report suspicious activity, persons, and conditions immediately.
• Provide escorts to students, staff, and faculty members.
• Assist campus police officers.
• Provide general information to university personnel and visitors.
• Perform foot patrol on campus grounds in all weather conditions.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact with a varied population.
• Remain calm in difficult, dangerous, high‑stress emergency situations and respond professionally.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Prior work experience in a security‑related role preferred.

• Successful background check.
• Child Protection Clearances (Act 153).
• Motor Vehicle Records (MVR).Pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening.
• Credit check.
• Security clearance: must obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
