Duties

  • This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-04 grade level. At the full performance, GS-06, the incumbent will:
  • Perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for the installation’s various visitors, provide answers to questions, determine whether appropriate need for access exists, and provide assistance as required.
  • Operate and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with federal and state laws.
  • Provide authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures, exercising sound judgment and discretion in response to telephone and in-person security inquiries.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
  • Incumbent must maintain a high standard of conduct in accordance with AR 190-56:
    Individual Reliability Program.
  • This is a Drug Testing Position. Incumbent is required to take a pre-employment drug test and annually/randomly thereafter.
  • Shift work is required. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program”.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outlined is governed by AR 190-56 “The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program”.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle and possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with AR 190-56. Must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Serve as a member of the installation’s overall security response capability. Required training includes carrying and deploying a riot baton, carrying a protective shield, and employing non-lethal am munitions if necessary.
  • Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 25%.
  • Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Who May Apply: US Citizens.

  • GS‑04:
    Minimum six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience in property protection and order maintenance. Alternatively, two years of post‑secondary education or a combination of education and experience that totals 100% of the requirement.
