Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead at Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) located in Mackenzie Point, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, diagnosing and overhauling all vehicles, heavy equipment and small engines.
  • Developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program for machines and equipment to include oil changes, transmission fluid and filter changes, checking coolant levels, brake fluid, power steering fluid, air filters, fuel filters, tire pressure, and wiper blades and keeping accurate service records.
  • Operating and inspecting machines and heavy equipment in order to diagnose defects and system failures. Determine best way to correct problems, obtain quotes for parts and submit for approval.
  • Maintaining warranty records on all vehicles and machines to ensure warranties are maintained on a set schedule.
  • Assisting with general grounds keeping and snow removal as needed inside and outside the perimeter fences of facility

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility that houses up to 1500 inmates and employs over 350 staff. You will be working in an institutional setting with inmates daily.

Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

  • Mechanical:
    Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Vehicle Maintenance:
    Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Vehicle Operation:
    Knowledge of procedures for operating motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, or watercraft.

Minimum Qualifications:

Additional Required Information:
Starting salary may be approved up to Step C - $32.24, if criteria are met.
