Position: Broadband Technician I - NANA Net - Noatak, AK
Location: Noatak

Job Description

The Broadband Technician performs installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables, service drops, and customer access equipment. Responsibilities also include splicing, testing fiber optic cables, general property upkeep, and ensuring reliable internet service delivery to customers while following company safety policies and operating without constant direct supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Install and terminate fiber optic cables, including aerial service drops.
  • Respond to service orders and trouble tickets for new installations, upgrades, removals, or changes to customer’s broadband services.
  • Install ONT’s, fiber jacks, jumpers, terminals, pedestals, splitters, protectors, modems/routers, and related hardware.
  • Perform splicing and testing of fiber optic cables.
  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues using test equipment such as OTDRs, light sources, power meters, Wi-Fi signal testers, etc.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of aerial fiber infrastructure.
  • Maintain and document splicing equipment, tools, and system maps.
  • Perform general property upkeep, including shoveling snow, weed whacking, and cleaning.
  • Maintain equipment such as battery plants, generators, alarms, air filters, and fluid levels; follow site log and record procedures.
  • Conduct safety inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Track and report company inventory used by technicians.
  • Operate and maintain 4-wheelers and snowmobiles.
  • Climb wooden poles to install and maintain aerial fiber connections.
  • Respond to requests for locations of underground fiber optic cables and mark cable routes.
  • Work closely with customers to ensure quality service and support.
  • Use company computer programs as required.
  • Adhere to safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Be available for on-call work during nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with fiber optic installation, splicing, and troubleshooting preferred.
  • Familiarity with aerial cable installation and safety protocols preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain specialized equipment, including 4-wheelers and snowmobiles.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record for the past three years preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors/outdoors with exposure to severe weather conditions.

Noise level: Moderate.

Environment: Small office spaces, equipment rooms with potential noise, exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, electrical shock risks, customer homes and businesses, outdoors with heat, cold, darkness, wildlife, and work from heights.

Physical requirements: Frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs.; occasionally up to 100 lbs.; sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, see, taste/smell, carry weight, climb ladders and poles, work from heights.

Travel

Required. Willingness to travel to job sites, possibly using small planes, boats, 4‑wheelers, and snowmobiles.
