Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is seeking a qualified mechanic to maintain and repair heavy‑ and light‑duty equipment used for roads, rural airports, and other state agency vehicles.

• Professionally maintain all heavy‑ and light‑duty equipment and vehicles associated with construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other agency vehicles.
• Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods, performing routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.
• Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission systems, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems (air and electrical) for both light and heavy‑duty equipment.

As part of the State Equipment Fleet team, you will help keep Alaska moving by ensuring safe, economical vehicles are available for state agencies. Our mission is to provide reliable transportation infrastructure across a challenging terrain.

• Mechanical: Knowledge of machines, tools, and their maintenance.
• Flexibility: Open to change, adapts quickly to new information or conditions.
• Vehicle Maintenance: Understanding of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems.
• Self‑Management: Sets realistic goals and works independently with initiative.
• Commercial Driver’s License: Must hold a Class A CDL or be able to obtain one within 120 days of hire.
