Position: COMMUNICATIONS CABLE SPLICER LEADER with Security Clearance
Location: Eielson Air Force Base

Duties
-Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. On a regular and recurring basis, utilizes trades and/or labor.

-Performs work. Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led
-Install, maintain, and modify copper, coaxial, fiber optic, local area network LAN cable systems and Antenna.

-Locate, repair, and/or replace faulty splice closure in copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cable systems - Requirements Conditions of employment

* Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
* Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
* Required to be "on-call" on a rotating basis and required to work other than normal duty hours such as evenings, weekends, and holidays due to mission requirements.
* The work requires the employee to operate heavy equipment and motor vehicles up to 2 1/2 tons such as back-hoes, tractors with front-end loaders, trenchers, cable reel trucks, cable trailers, and low-profile trucks.
* An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position. Position requires the ability to distinguish colors, have normal eye-hand coordination, and finger dexterity.
* Position requires individual to have normal gait and balance and be free from fear of heights and claustrophobia.
* Required to travel by commercial or military aircraft in the performance of temporary duty.
* This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug
* use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety
* Position supported by Defense Department's Performance Management Appraisal Program. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the Wire Communications Equipment Installation and Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead or supervise. JOB ELEMENTS:
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of telecommunications cable principles and trade practices in the installation, maintenance, splicing, modifying, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing copper core, coax, fiber-optic, and LAN cables.
2. Knowledge of electrical and light-wave communications on buried and underground copper core, coax and fiber-optics communications, and LAN systems; knowledge of electrical and light-wave communications of copper core, coax and fiber optic splicing, splicing, splicing diagrams, techniques, and sealing of cables.
