Duties
Installs, maintains, and modifies copper, coaxial, fiber optic and local area network (LAN) cable systems.
Locates, repairs, and/or replaces faulty splice closure in copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cable systems.
Monitors, analyzes and troubleshoots copper, coaxial, fiber optic and LAN cable systems. Determines cause of signal deterioration in optical and electrical cable carrying audio, video, digital and data transmission.
Uses and maintains standard hand tools and a variety of electronic test equipment such as volt ohmmeters (analog and digital), fault locators, open-fault locators, electronic time-domain reflectometers, Dynatel, and optical time-domain reflectometers.
Installs, removes, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs ground-to-air communications systems including UHF, VHF, and microwave antenna and communications equipment. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on all UHF, VHF, and microwave antenna systems, including the lightning protection of all antenna supports.

May be required to be "on-call" on a rotating basis, and work unusual duty hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays) due to mission requirements.
May be required to travel by commercial or military aircraft to perform temporary duty. May be required to live in field conditions while performing temporary duty.
Requires a valid Government motor vehicle Operators license for each type of equipment operated. (up to 21/2 tons such as back hoes, tractors with attachments, such as bucket /back hoe/ rock wheel/stinger,trenchers, cable reel trucks
The following certifications are highly desired: a. Fiber optic certified installer b. CAT 5/6 certified installer c. GEOBASE trained/certified d. CAIRS trained/certified e. CIPS CVS trained/certified-
cont. f. Pole and antenna climb certified g. Confined space certified
