Location: New Stuyahok

POSITION TITLE:
477 Caseworker;
Youth Services

OBJECTIVE: This position engages youth between 14-24 years of age to lay a foundation for self-sufficiency by connecting youth to an extensive variety of supportive services and collaboration with local, state, and federal resources and agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated ability to achieve the Essential Job Results as described in attachments for levels I-IV.

License / Certification: Current valid Alaska Driver's License and liability insurance

Clearance
:
Background clearance check including fingerprints

Computer skills
. Keyboard, MS programs, e-mail/internet. Ability to learn data entry program for case management.

Education / Experience. AA in Human Services or High School / GED + two additional years of experience described below.

Experience
:
Should include youth case management or any other related field which involved continuous counseling, explaining policies, procedures, services, client responsibilities, and teaching of budgeting, interview skills, work-readiness skills. Able to apply statutes, regulations, program requirements or similar criteria or guidelines.

Important: Familiar with current youth culture; understanding of youths' interests, challenges and concerns. Familiarity with agencies and resources for youth. Ability to organize large group meetings; presentation skills. Knowledge of resources that are available to help youth. Familiar with Bristol Bay area, people, and cultures.

CASEWORKER I

High School Graduate;
Entry-level work;
Little or no casework experience. Requires full supervision. Ability to carry a case load of; 1-15

CASEWORKER II

AA Degree or 2 years progressive experience with casework. Assigned a low number of cases, supervised closely while training on the job. Ability to carry a case load of cases of; 15-30

CASEWORKER III

AA or specialized certificate or training and at least a year of casework experience or achieved 3 years of progressive casework experience. Ability to carry a case load of cases of; 30-60

CASEWORKER IV

BA or 4 years progressive experience in the field and leadership experience. May be assigned mentoring of local and telecommute eligibility caseworkers, while maintaining a full case load of 60 cases that consists of complex cases

Complete achievement of certain of the above specifications may not be required if, in the opinion of BBNA a particular candidate possesses significant offsetting characteristics, such as past accomplishments, experience, education, or estimate of future potential.

Achieve program goals and objectives

by

  • Receiving training on PL 102-477 Workforce Development rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Developing a knowledge of important linkages between 477 Divisions of Data Entry, Eligibility, and Case Management.
  • Becoming familiar with the basic operational guidelines for each of the above divisions.
  • Working with the 477 team to ensure that clients can access services easily.
  • Communicating with diplomacy and tact towards clients and colleagues, with respect for differing cultures.
  • Using professional de-escalation techniques to assist clients who may be frustrated, angry, or fearful. Following safety protocols if a situation appears to be escalating.
  • Keep Management Informed

    by

    • Recordkeeping, using current database system to document services for funding agencies and for efficient service delivery. Helping to ensure client files have all the necessary documentation and are in the proper order so accurate information can be retrieved quickly and reliably.
    • Participating in scheduled Workforce Department team meetings.
    • Producing a monthly activity report
    Travel in and out of region

    by

    • Traveling for mandatory face-to-face meetings or trainings as required to provide services, participate in training or workshops and to exchange current information significant to regional, Tribal, State and Federal entities.
    • Fully participating in a manner of professional conduct while in travel status.
    • Ensuring that any travel is well-planned and scheduled according to BBNA policy.
