Position Summary

This position within the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) will support Hill Air Force Base and other locations as required.

SEI advances software engineering principles and practices and serves as a national resource in software engineering and computer security. SEI works closely with academia, defense, and government organizations, and industry to continually improve software‑intensive systems. Our core purpose is to help organizations improve software engineering capabilities and develop or acquire high quality software, on budget and on time.

Responsibilities
  • Provide embedded software engineering support at Hill Air Force Base, UT, and other locations as needed.
  • Apply program and project management skills, collaborate with SEI colleagues, and work with clients to develop proposals and establish relationships with new DoD and/or government clients.
  • Analyze software architecture for functional and non‑functional quality attributes and apply disciplined architecture methods for trade‑off analysis to optimize solutions.
  • Apply modern software development techniques such as Dev Sec Ops  tailored to customer domain environments to efficiently meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Analyze cybersecurity approaches, methodologies, tools, and techniques to prevent and mitigate risks.
  • Analyze FPGA hardware and software interface specifications described via VHDL or Verilog to ensure system requirements are met.
  • Analyze software test and evaluation techniques and methodologies.
  • Use static, dynamic and complexity analysis tools to identify software weaknesses and recommend refactoring.
  • Review software contractor task development, activities, deliverables, risks, issues, and recommend mitigation strategies.
Requirements
  • BS with 8years experience, MS with 5years, or PhD with 2years in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with professional experience as a software developer, engineer, or verification engineer in a collaborative team environment.
  • Flexible to travel to other SEI offices, sponsor sites, conferences, and off‑site meetings; moderate (25%) travel outside home location.
  • Eligible for and must maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; not sponsored for employment visa.
  • At least 75% of weekly effort will be onsite at either SEI or customer facility.
  • Understanding of the DoD Systems Engineering lifecycle and use of Digital Engineering capabilities to document and assess software engineering and development activities.
  • Familiarity with embedded software and/or firmware safety standards such as MIL‑STD‑882E, DO‑178C, and DO‑254.
  • Proficiency in software development languages such as C, C++, Ada, and/or firmware development languages like VHDL or Verilog.
  • Experience developing or analyzing embedded software built on modern real‑time operating systems like VxWorks.
  • Experience with embedded software performance tests and interpreting results.
