Heavy Equipment Operator - Nuiqsut

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow‑up testing.

• Operate heavy equipment and other machinery in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
• Maintain and clear roads, airport runway and access roads, and landfill areas.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment prior to operations; complete shift inspection checklist.
• Maintain vehicle log, inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports.
• Inspect and clean equipment and facility; report maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
• Load and unload aircraft with heavy equipment.
• Must be polite and courteous to the public.
• May be required to work a non‑traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24‑hour on‑call status.
• Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.
• Village travel as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in heavy equipment operation.
• Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
• High School graduate or G.E.D., or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
• One year of experience with heavy equipment operations and maintenance.
• Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800.
• Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications.
