Position: Equipment Operator Journey 1/2/3 Lead (PCN 251033) Cold Bay
Location: Knik-Fairview

Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2/3 Lead – Cold Bay, Alaska

Attention Alaska residents only.

Salary Information
  • Journey 1: $32.32 per hour – OT eligible
  • Journey 2: $34.18 per hour – OT eligible
  • Journey 3 (Lead): $36.32 per hour – OT eligible
What You Will Be Doing
  • Journey 1:
    Perform airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station, including a rural Part 139 certified airport. Maintain State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in safe condition, complying with FHWA, FAA, TSA, and State regulations. Use light duty equipment; heavy equipment training only.
  • Journey 2:
    Same duties as Journey 1, focusing on airport and highway maintenance at the State station. Maintain all infrastructure per applicable regulations.
  • Journey 3 (Lead):
    Lead a maintenance crew; perform the same tasks as Journeys 1 and 2, oversee crew operations, and maintain all State infrastructure per regulations.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of transportation principles for air, rail, sea, or road logistics
  • Vehicle operation skills for cars, trucks, or watercraft
  • Problem‑solving ability; sound judgment and decision‑making
  • Strong eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity
  • Valid Class A CDL required for Journeys 1, 2, and 3 (within specified time frames)
  • Tanker endorsement (N) required for Journeys 2 and 3 within 90 days of hire;
    Haz Mat endorsement may be required
  • Compliance with cargo and firearms qualification if applicable
  • Successful completion of background check, drug testing, and safety‑sensitive onboarding
Licensing and Training Requirements
  • Journey 1:
    Obtain Class A CDL within six (6) months of hire and sign a compliance agreement.
  • Journey 2:
    Obtain Class A CDL at hire; obtain N‑Tanker endorsement within 90 days and sign agreement.
  • Journey 3:
    Obtain Class A CDL at hire; obtain N‑Tanker endorsement within 90 days and sign agreement. If transitioning from Journey 2 to 3, complete ARFF training and demonstrate competencies.
