La Cañada Unified School District is seeking to develop an applicant pool for a possible full-time, physical education teacher at the secondary level. Students may be in grades 7-12. If a vacancy opens, the incumbent will be offered a full-time, probationary contract leading to tenure. It is preferable if the incumbent holds an adapted PE authorization and/or has experience in coaching a high school competitive sport.
Qualifications:
1. Valid California Single Subject Credential in Physical Education, including a certification to teach English Language Learner students. Preferable:
Added Authorization in Adapted Physical Education. 2.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree or higher. Master's degree or higher degree is desirable.
Work Year:
If a vacancy opens, the position would be active Monday through Friday, mid-August through early June (10 months), with 187 contracted workdays. A new teacher orientation day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The first day of paid service would be Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Students are on campus Thursday, August 13, 2026 through Thursday, June 3, 2027. School is in session 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with a block schedule on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The last day of the teacher work year is Friday, June 4, 2027.
Salary:
Placement on the certificated salary schedule is dependent on education and years of employment in a public school district. No cap is placed on years for public school experience. The starting annual salary range for a full-time, fully credentialed teacher is $68,265 to $131,172, corresponding to $6,205.95 to $11,924.76 per month. Teachers are paid over 11 months on the last workday of the month, August through June.
Benefits:
This position would be eligible to participate in the District's medical benefit plans. Currently the District's maximum contribution to an employee's benefits package is $20,944 per year. The benefits year runs October 1 to September 30. If not already a member, the new employee will be enrolled in the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).
