Job Summary

The employee in this classification will perform general accounting functions and is responsible for the maintenance, accuracy and control of the accounting records. This includes the general ledger, payables, cash management, payroll, property, budget reporting, and statistical accumulation. Responsibilities also include financial statement and report preparation on a regular and special request basis, assisting departments with annual budget preparation and budget reviews, assisting in the hospital's annual budget preparation, and reviewing entries to the general and statistical ledgers to assure accuracy.

The employee may also be asked to assist the Manager, Director, VP and CFO in analysis and reporting of financial data, both internally and externally.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or other Business Related Field (Required)
  • Master's Degree in Accounting or other Business Related Field (Preferred)
  • One or more years of experience in an accounting office or department, preferably in a hospital environment (Preferred)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Preferred)

Essential Functions
  • Perform accurate and timely accounting tasks in an assigned area of specialization (Cash, Grant, Investment, Fixed Asset, or Accounts Payable).
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger for assigned accounts.
  • Evaluate subsidiary journals for errors and omissions and enter corrected data into the general ledger.
  • Reconcile and maintain led schedules for general ledger accounts and daily activities such as cash.
  • Assist in month-end closing duties as assigned.
  • Maintain all documentation and complete all reporting functions in the assigned area.
  • Prepare reports for other departments, including fixed asset, CIP reports for construction management, and Health Ventures reports for various managers.
  • Prepare federal, state, and other regulatory reports such as tax returns, 941, W-2, 990, 5500, and surveys.
  • Maintain records for material transactions (bond issues, investments, large cash transfers, large asset purchases) in an organized and accessible manner.
  • Prepare all documentation required for year-end audit.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Participate in staff meetings and complete mandatory in-services and competency evaluations on time.
