Created in 1933, the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) is the only state organization that represents municipal governments in Georgia. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its members.
About the RoleThe purpose of this position is to support the growth, retention, and effective delivery of GMA’s retirement programs by serving as a primary field resource to member municipalities. The Retirement Field Services Representative develops and maintains relationships with members, promotes defined benefit and defined contribution retirement programs, provides employee education, assists members with plan-related needs and amendments, and identifies opportunities for new business.
This position requires extensive travel throughout Georgia and serves as a key connection between GMA, its retirement programs, and participating and prospective member municipalities.
- Meet or exceed the annual new business and retention objective as well as other objectives that may be necessary.
- Market products and services to existing and prospective members; which includes assisting clients in understanding both defined benefit and defined contribution plan features.
- Maintain services to existing member base; which includes placing and receiving calls, handling problems related to contributions, distributions, investments, website issues, and/or other member issues.
- Develop and deliver employee education presentations designed to improve understanding of retirement plans and encourage stronger participation in both defined benefit and defined contribution programs.
- Maintain detailed prospect listing for new member solicitation.
- Prepare and submit marketing presentations and requests for proposals.
- Interact with all municipal governments across the state; which includes attending meetings and conferences to promote GMA’s overall services and retirement programs.
- Represent GMA at trade association meetings and exhibits to promote products and programs.
- Prepare and present for GMA at meetings, workshops and, employee education sessions.
- Coordinate with other GMA Departments to help create and/or maintain relationships with members and prospects.
- Assist members through the plan amendment process, helping them understand and navigate steps and documentation required.
- Prepare reports on business transactions and expense accounts as required.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in Marketing, Finance, Public Administration, Business or a related field is required. Five or more years of practical experience is preferred.
