Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.
Job SummaryThe ASU 1101 Instructor is responsible for delivering a high-quality first-year seminar experience that supports student engagement, academic success, and retention. This role includes teaching required course goals and learning outcomes, incorporating assigned focus-area assignments, and collaborating with P3 mentors and learning community partners to enhance student learning. The instructor maintains consistent communication with students and colleagues, participates in required professional development and University College meetings, and monitors student progress through regular reporting and assessment.
Through intentional instruction, structured grading practices, and proactive student support, the instructor fosters an engaging and accountable learning environment that promotes student success.

Responsibilities- Obtain supervisor’s approval to teach ASU 1101
- Attend professional development training Spring and Summer 2026
- Teach required course goals and learning outcomes
- Maintain regular and appropriate communication with other learning community instructors (if teaching within a learning community)
- Attend monthly UC Town Hall meetings
- Prepare and submit weekly progress reports on student performance
- Incorporate the assigned P3 mentor in the course delivery and instruction
- Incorporate assignments created based on the assigned focus area
- Use a point system for grading all ASU 1101 assignments using the GA View gradebook
- Create an engaged student environment by supporting, encouraging, and holding all students accountable for their learning experience
Have a master’s degree or higher.
Preferred Qualifications- Hold status as part-time or full-time staff or faculty at Albany State University
- Experience teaching first-year students
- Involvement in retention and/or student success-related work
- Scholarship or presentations related to first-year experience
Salary is on a per course rate.

- Ability to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment that fosters student belonging, engagement, and academic confidence
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building meaningful relationships with diverse student populations and campus partners
- Skill in identifying and supporting at-risk students through early alert practices, progress monitoring, and timely intervention
- Knowledge of high-impact practices and experiential learning strategies that enhance student engagement and motivation
- Proficiency in learning management systems and electronic grade books to provide transparent grading and timely, constructive feedback
- Ability to collaborate effectively within learning communities and with mentors, advisors, and student support services
- Ability to balance academic rigor with empathy, accountability, and flexibility to support student success and retention
