Job summary:

The dougherty county school system is seeking a forward-thinking 6-12 science content coordinator to lead the development and continuous improvement of the 6th-12th science curriculum. This position is dedicated to advancing inquiry-based, hands-on science instruction that integrates modern laboratory practices and emerging digital technologies. The coordinator will collaborate with school leaders and instructional support staff to foster innovative and interdisciplinary learning experiences that prepare students for future scientific inquiry and careers.

Minimum qualifications:

* master's degree in related fields required; specialist or doctorate degree in related field preferred;

* valid georgia teacher certification or charter waiver eligible;

* system level 6th-12th experience preferred;

* five years of successful teaching experience with two years in an instructional leadership role;

* instructional and leadership experience in the area of science and local administrative experience preferred;

* experience, familiarity, and application knowledge of tkes, lkes, ccrpi, college and career standards, and slds are desired.

Skills and abilities:

* deep expertise in the georgia standards of excellence (gse) for middle and high school science;

* expertise in inquiry-based science education, laboratory safety, digital data collection, and analysis;

* demonstrated ability to integrate instructional technology (virtual labs, simulation software, digital assessment tools) to enhance scientific exploration;

* strong understanding of best practices in science instruction, including inquiry-based and project-based learning;

* proficiency in data analysis to inform curriculum decisions, improve student achievement, and provide targeted professional learning;

* strong leadership, coaching, and mentorship skills with the ability to build capacity among teachers and school-based instructional support staff;

* effective collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with teachers, school administrators, instructional coaches, and district instructional support staff to enhance science instruction;

* experience designing and delivering impactful professional development in instructional strategies, technology integration, and student engagement;

* ability to foster innovation in science instruction through interdisciplinary collaboration and experiential learning;

* exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills;

* commitment to equitable curriculum development and instructional support.

Performance responsibilities:

Curriculum development & instructional leadership

* develop and refine a comprehensive middle and hig school science curriculum aligned with gse;

* create and update curriculum maps, pacing guides, and digital instructional materials that promote hands-on and inquiry-based learning;

* integrate innovative practices such as real-world problem solving, digital simulations, and lab activities that foster inquiry and experimentation;

* integrate cutting-edge digital tools and interdisciplinary approaches into the science curriculum.

Professional learning & teacher support

* design and facilitate professional development sessions focused on technology integration, data analysis, and contemporary innovative science teaching and instructional strategies;

* provide job-embedded coaching and mentoring to support teachers' implementation of innovative practices;

* support teachers in analyzing student achievement data to adjust instruction;

* support teachers in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including gifted, esol, and special education students;

* mentor and support new teachers through orientation, coaching, and professional development on best practices in science instruction.

Assessment & data-informed decision-making

* assist in the development, administration, and analysis of common assessments to measure student mastery and instructional effectiveness;

* support schools in using assessment data to inform personalized instruction, intervention, and enrichment strategies;

* collaborate with district and school leaders to monitor achievement trends and make recommendations for curriculum improvements based on data insights.

Collaboration & stakeholder engagement

* partner with principals, instructional coaches, and district instructional support leaders to support high-quality science instruction in all middle and high schools;
