Summary and relationship to the curriculum: This position will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the district mission statement. This position implements a standard of performance at each school cafeteria for ensuring that each customer has the opportunity to enjoy safe, attractive, and nutritious meals by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages all processes related to food safety and sanitation, food ordering, meal production, storage, meal service, and food quality.
  • Provides positive leadership and direction to food assistants, which supports productivity, teamwork, and safety.
  • Ensures the school program fully implements all federal, state, and local policies and procedures related to the School Nutrition Program (SNP).
  • Works cooperatively with SNP Area Manager and other SNP staff to successfully manage all aspects of the school nutrition program.
  • Provides nutrition education to the students and school community.
  • Maintains and manages the school nutrition budget.
  • Develops plans to ensure the highest levels of student and faculty participation.
  • Participates in professional learning opportunities through school nutrition related associations and groups; supports and encourages staff to participate in professional learning opportunities.
  • Displays a positive attitude, spreads enthusiasm, and enjoys serving people.
  • Cooperates with all stakeholders to make the school nutrition program a part of the total educational experience for children.
  • Performs any other additional duties as assigned.

  • a) Education and/or

    Experience:

    High school diploma or GED. A minimum of three years experience in the food service industry preferred. Completion of the Houston County Assistant Manager School Nutrition Program preferred.
  • b) Certificate or License

    Required:

    Completion of ONE required within one year of employment. Completion of TID 2, TID 3, and TID 4 required within first four years of employment. Serv Safe certification required within one year of employment. Serv Safe certification maintained throughout employment as a School Nutrition Manager.
  • c) Language

    Skills:

    Must have ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to communicate effectively.
  • d) Mathematical

    Skills:

    Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Must have the ability to interpret financial data as it relates to the operation of the school. In particular, have the ability to identify concerns in financial management and operational management of the program within the school.
  • e) Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving processes. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions to address concerns.
  • f) Technical Ability: Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
