Job Summary

The Professional Immersions in Nursing (PIN) Student Outreach Worker supports the Title III-funded Professional Immersions in Nursing (PIN) Program by promoting nursing career awareness, health education, and community engagement. Student workers will participate in nursing skill-building activities, faculty-led simulations, mentorship experiences, and health promotion initiatives while serving as ambassadors for the Department of Nursing. The position provides students with opportunities to strengthen leadership, communication, clinical, and professional skills while encouraging elementary, middle, and high school students to pursue careers in nursing.

Responsibilities

Student outreach workers will complete nurse-skill building activities through simulations and workshops, mentorship activities, and high-impact community outreach in local elementary and secondary schools Student outreach workers will prepare and utilize education tools (i.e., posters, handouts, health education games, etc.), as applicable. The following duties are representative but are not intended to be all-inclusive:

  • Participate in nursing skills workshops, simulation activities, and professional development training.
  • Assist faculty with planning, organizing, and implementing PIN Program activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model and ambassador for Albany State University and the Department of Nursing.
  • Participate in mentoring activities with elementary, middle, and high school students.
  • Deliver age-appropriate health education presentations under faculty supervision.
  • Assist with community outreach events, health fairs, school visits, and campus recruitment activities.
  • Develop, organize, and distribute educational materials, including posters, brochures, handouts, displays, and interactive learning activities.
  • Facilitate educational games and STEM activities designed to promote health awareness and nursing careers.
  • Assist with event setup, registration, participant engagement, and breakdown.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate conduct while representing the university.
  • Collect participant attendance and evaluation data as assigned.
  • Complete required training and attend scheduled meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the goals of the PIN Program.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment.
  • Currently enrolled as an Albany State University student.
  • Major in Pre-Nursing, Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.90.
  • Eligible for student employment.
  • You must provide your original Social Security card to Human Resources for employment verification. (Do not submit your Social Security number or card with the application.)
  • Must be available to work approximately 6-9 hours per week.
  • Must be available to participate in required community outreach events, which may include evenings or weekends.
  • Ability to travel locally to community outreach sites.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and speaking during educational and outreach activities.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of educational materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel locally to participating schools and community sites.
