License and Certification

Qualifications:

• Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educators Certificate in Educational Leadership and/or Support Personnel License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission Required
• Valid Georgia certificate in the field of School Librarian. Required

• Masters Degree in related field Required
• Specialists Degree in related field Preferred
• Doctoral Degree in related field Preferred

• 5 years of experience as a School Librarian in education Required
• 2 years of experience in a leadership position in the School Librarian field Preferred

• Ability to develop, lead, and supervise K-12 library media programs to achieve the districts mission, vision, and goals
• Strong leadership skills
• High degree of skill in oral and written communications
• High degree of skill in organization and problem-solving
• Ability to plan a comprehensive and integrated professional development program for School Librarians which supports the direction of the district
• Effective teamwork and collaborative skills for coordination of support programs with other curricular and instructional programs
• Ability to lead others in the pursuit of districts mission, vision, and goals as related to school librarian support
• Proficiency in technology applications for effective and efficient communication and distribution of resources
• Ability to project and generate positive attitudes
• Ability to work successfully with colleagues

Provide leadership, coordination, and support for all aspects of systemwide library media services.

• Lead, plan, and support the school library programs for the district.
  • Plan collaboratively for continuous quality improvement of the Library Media Services Department.
  • Provide continuity for the K-12 school library programs through quality professional learning, print and digital resource support, and instructional technology integration.
  • Plan collaboratively with school instructional technology teams to integrate technology to support teaching and learning.
  • Create the conditions for School Librarians to develop leadership, teamwork, and consensus-building skills and to provide a quality school library program.
  • Plan for the effective use of space and facilities within the department, school library renovations, and new school libraries.
• Direct and develop Operational Management Plans (OMPs) for district library media services.
  • Facilitate internships for School Librarians through partnerships with colleges and universities.
  • Involve parents, citizen groups, and community agencies in developing an effective school library program that serves the Gwinnett community of learners.
  • Assist library media committees in defining goals, developing plans, and establishing procedures for selection and evaluation of school library resources.
  • Develop resources on use of new technologies for School Librarians to deliver at their schools for system-wide initiatives.
  • Develop, organize, and deliver in-services for School Librarians and Library Media Clerks to encourage continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments in the Division of Technology and Innovation and other divisions to ensure integration of technology and information and media literacy skills in the library.
• Direct the implementation of the school library program.
  • Communicate the importance of the school library program as vital to the instructional program.
  • Suggest strategies for the achievement of school library goals and objectives.
  • Implement school library policies and procedures.
  • Act as the hearing officer for system level appeal hearings for locally purchased school library materials as well as district purchased library materials.
