Senior Electrical Project Engineer

Overview

We are looking for an Electrical Project Engineer Senior level that will support the North American Distribution Team. Vanderlande’s Engineering Department is responsible for the design, specification, and commissioning of Material Handling Systems, Warehouse Automation and Parcel Sortation systems for customers throughout North America. In this position you will work with an engineering project team in the development of an automated warehouse or parcel sortation system, ensuring the design meets customer requirements, is coordinated with other trades for proper operation, can be installed and operated efficiently, and maintains excellent communication with the site team.

Success in this role involves balancing technical requirements with strong collaboration and motivation skills, working closely with stakeholders from other disciplines to balance priorities, improve processes, and satisfy complex goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop code compliant electrical systems that meet customer specifications and regulations.
  • Peer‑review designs created by other engineers to ensure compliance with customer specifications and regulations.
  • Optimize system functionality from as‑sold to a working electrical design within budget in consultation with Mechanical, Controls, Supply Chain, and Installation disciplines.
  • Perform and review system and component level calculations to size components and equipment for the application (conductor sizing, voltage drop, motor starters, overcurrent and short‑circuit protection, control panels, control networks, etc.).
  • Engineer project specials needed for non‑standard design applications.
  • Apply safety regulations.
  • Specify the electrical equipment required for the complete electrical system that operates and controls both Vanderlande‑manufactured and third‑party purchased items.
  • Use software tools (AutoCAD Electrical, Word, Excel, etc.) to develop electrical designs such as wiring diagrams, termination lists, Bill of Materials, etc.
  • Document all engineering decisions through design plans, complete and clear installation files, and engineering instructions directed to a site supervisor and installation subcontractor.
  • Travel to site as needed to conduct site surveys.
  • Support installation and commissioning both on site and from the Marietta, GA office.
  • Perform project document control using a rights‑based database system.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum 8 years of related work experience (or Associate EE/ET with 12 years related experience).
  • Willing and able to travel domestically up to 25% with occasional international opportunities.
  • Ability to think conceptually (overall system) and translate that into a detailed system design.
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial organization and be a natural team member.
  • Strong communicator, able to understand and set expectations for deliverables.
  • Able to handle time‑sensitive situations and quickly set the right priorities while maintaining a firm grasp of details.

  • Expert knowledge of electrical engineering theories and principles.
  • Advanced knowledge/experience with NFPA 70.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge/experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Occupational Safety and Health Standards.
  • Knowledge/experience with NFPA 70E.
  • Knowledge/experience with NFPA 79.
  • Knowledge/experience with UL 508A.
  • Knowledge/experience with ISO 13849‑1.
  • Experience designing UL‑rated control cabinets, low‑voltage power distribution systems, and programming PLCs.
