Fulton County Police Department – Classified Position
Starting salary for this position is $63,000.00.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years of experience in a law enforcement agency with full arrest powers, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification RequiredMust possess and maintain Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Law Enforcement certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License.
NecessarySpecial Requirements
- Must submit to and pass a psychological profile test.
- Must successfully pass a physical agility test, polygraph examination, drug test, and background investigation, including criminal history, driver history, financial/credit, court, employment, character, and social acquaintances checks.
- Must be at least twenty (20) years of age.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Be fingerprinted and searched of local, state, and national fingerprint files.
- Be of good moral character as determined by established standards and procedures.
- Have an oral interview with the hiring authority or designated representatives to determine appearance, background, and ability to communicate.
- Be found, after examination by a licensed physician, to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect exercising the powers or duties of a peace officer.
- Successfully complete a job related academy entrance examination provided for and administered by the council in conformity with state and federal law.
Must demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

ExaminationThe examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education, and experience as listed to be rated as qualified. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required at time of employment for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.
Purposeof Classification
This classification protects life and property, deters criminal activity, and enforces all local, state, and federal laws, statutes and regulations. Incumbents in this class have at least two years of law enforcement experience.
Essential Functions- Enforce all applicable codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations (both traffic and criminal) to protect life and property, prevent crime, and promote security.
- Patrol designated areas via motor vehicle or on foot to detect and deter criminal activity and traffic violations.
- Inspect doors, windows, and premises of residential/commercial buildings/properties to ensure security or detect suspicious conditions.
- Respond to active alarms, domestic disputes, abuse, assaults, burglaries, thefts, fatalities, traffic accidents, property damage, alarms, bomb threats, lost or missing persons searches, rescue operations, unattended deaths, public service duties, stranded motorists, or dangerous drivers.
- Prevent and discover crime, write citations, pursue fleeing suspects, apprehend, arrest, and process criminals, fugitives, and offenders.
- Assist in booking inmates into jail; transport arrestees, prisoners, members of the general public, or other individuals as required.
