ND Global Consulting Services, Inc. is seeking a qualified School Nurse to provide school-based nursing support for medically fragile and medically complex students in Albany, Georgia. The School Nurse will provide skilled nursing care during the school day and, when medically required, during transportation to and from school. This role supports students with health needs documented through physician orders, Individualized Education Programs, Individualized Healthcare Plans, emergency care plans, and school district procedures.
The nurse may be assigned to one or more school locations depending on student care needs and district staffing requirements.
Responsibilities- Provide skilled nursing services to students with medically fragile or complex medical needs.
- Follow physician orders, IEPs, IHPs, emergency care plans, school procedures, and applicable nursing standards.
- Administer medically prescribed interventions, which may include tube feeding, catheterization, respiratory care, oxygen administration, ventilator support, tracheostomy care, medication administration, seizure monitoring, and other medically necessary procedures.
- Monitor students throughout the school day and respond promptly to changes in health status, emergencies, or medically significant events.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including daily nursing logs, medication administration records, incident reports, and other required school or NDGCS documentation.
- Maintain confidentiality of student health and education records in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, district policies, and NDGCS standards.
- Communicate professionally with parents or guardians, school staff, physicians, related service providers, and NDGCS management regarding student health needs.
- Accompany students during transportation when medically required by the student’s care plan or district direction.
- Support school personnel with emergency response awareness and medical-procedure coordination, as appropriate and within professional scope.
- Participate in student meetings when requested and provide nursing input related to health accommodations and student safety.
- Report absences, schedule changes, service interruptions, incidents, or care concerns promptly to NDGCS and appropriate school contacts.
- Current, active nursing license in the State of Georgia appropriate to the assignment.
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Prior school nursing, pediatric nursing, private-duty nursing, one-to-one nursing, special education nursing, medically fragile student care, or comparable pediatric clinical experience preferred.
- Ability to perform skilled nursing procedures safely and accurately within licensed scope.
- Ability to work independently in a school setting while coordinating with parents, school staff, healthcare providers, and NDGCS management.
- Strong documentation, communication, judgment, confidentiality, and emergency-response skills.
- Must successfully complete all required criminal background checks and school clearance requirements before assignment.
Preferred candidates will have experience supporting students or pediatric patients with:
- IEPs, IHPs, or emergency care plans
- Feeding plans
- Respiratory needs
- Tracheostomy care
- Ventilator support
- Medication administration
- Medically fragile or medically complex conditions
Experience in public schools, special education environments, pediatric home health, private-duty nursing, or medically fragile pediatric care is strongly preferred.
This is a school-based nursing role. The nurse may work in classrooms, health rooms, buses, or other school-related environments depending on student medical needs. Assignments and locations may vary based on district needs, staffing requirements, and student care plans.
