Job Summary

The Rapid Response Team Nurse (RRT) functions under the direction of the Critical Care Nurse Manager, participating in the coordination of Rapid Response Team responses. The RRT assesses patients, prioritizes and collaborates with the Provider and Respiratory Therapist, and implements interventions to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RRT ensures documentation of interventions and outcomes is complete, maintains collaborative communication with other team members and disciplines, and delivers safe, appropriate care to a culturally diverse population.

The RRT serves as a resource and support to staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments, and is responsible for MET and Code Blue calls, follow‑up visits, surveillance rounds, rapid response data collection, entry and analysis, practice guideline oversight, evaluation of patient codes, and informal staff education.

Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
  • 1 or more years of critical care or emergency room nursing experience (Required)
  • Previous Charge Nurse or MET team experience (Preferred)
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia (Required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (Required)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and Georgia Stroke Curriculum within 6 months of hire (Required)
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) (Preferred)
  • Trauma Nurse Course Certified (TNCC) (Preferred)
Essential Functions

ASSESSMENT AND NURSING DIAGNOSIS: Collects data in a systematic and ongoing process; identifies issues and diagnoses; prioritizes data collection; completes timely daily data collection; identifies expected outcomes and plans based on diagnoses.

DOCUMENTATION: Documents and submits required information in a timely fashion; uses correct terminology and conforms to required style and format; ensures documentation is tailored to intended readers.

OUTCOMES AND EVALUATIONS: Develops expected outcomes that guide continuity of care; involves patient, family, and other disciplines; modifies plans based on changes in assessment; evaluates outcomes against patient responses; documents results.

RN – LEADERSHIP: Directs coordination of care across settings and among caregivers; engages in teamwork; promotes a shared vision; supports professional development and informal bedside education.

RN – QUALITY: Applies quality improvement activities; uses evidence‑based knowledge to initiate changes; participates in quality improvement activities.

SURVEILLANCE ROUNDS: Transfers from ICU and EC within 24 hours; monitors EC admissions within first 12 hours; responds to sepsis alerts and admissions; identifies high NEWS score patients and those with hi‑flow oxygen or Bi‑PAP; holds patients in EC and PACU; identifies additional surveillance opportunities.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Adheres to hospital attendance and punctuality guidelines; performs job responsibilities in alignment with core values; attends staff meetings, mandatory in‑services, and competency evaluations on time; demonstrates competency in all patient care areas; applies age‑specific customer service skills for non‑clinical interactions; wears protective clothing and equipment as required; maintains current knowledge through self‑education and ongoing educational programs.
