American Traveler is seeking an experienced Oncology RN for a Med/Surg unit requiring at least 1 year of specialty experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details- Acute care hospital setting on a 29-bed Oncology unit (7th floor) with outpatient overflow patients
- Patient population includes acute oncology symptoms, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, sickle cell crisis, hematology, medical overflow, and end of life care
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, occasionally 1:6
- Central telemetry monitoring used, though reading strips is not required
- Support staff includes approximately 3 nurse aides per day and a dedicated Charge Nurse
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a-7p
- Every other weekend required
- Rotating holiday coverage required
- Floating rarely required to medical acute units
- Uses MEDITECH EMR
- 3-day unit-specific orientation provided
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- NIHSS certification preferred
- ONS certification preferred, with 2 years of specialty experience required if administering chemotherapy
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- At least 1 prior travel assignment required
- No first-time travelers accepted
- Caribbean Blue scrub color required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Provide direct patient care to oncology and hematology patients, including chemotherapy administration for qualified candidates
- Outpatient area patients may be transferred to the floor to complete treatment if running late
- Charge Nurse duties are typically assigned from the staffing grid rather than to travelers
- Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement
- Not eligible for placement if previously employed by the facility within the last 12 months
