Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg (Acute Care) night shift position requiring at least 2 years of specialty experience and GA or compact RN licensure.

Details
  • Acute Care Med/Surg unit within a large 483-bed acute care hospital
  • 14-bed unit caring for patients with diabetes, CHF, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, dialysis needs, post-surgical overflow, amputations, debridements, wound care, DVTs, ETOH, and psych
  • Patient ratios of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
  • CNAs typically staffed at 1:12, with occasional pulls for 1:1 and sitter duties
  • Utilizes MEDITECH EMR
  • Administers medications including Lasix, Bumex, and Heparin
  • Uses CPAP and nighttime BiPAP equipment
  • Cardiac telemetry monitoring performed on a different unit; nurses not required to interpret strips
  • Charge nurse role available on a rotating basis without a patient assignment unless needed
  • Night shift schedule, 7p-7a with 6:45-7:15 report overlap, all 12-hour shifts
  • Works every other weekend, rotating with permanent staff
  • Floating required to all Acute Care and Cardio units, or to the Emergency Center for acute care patient holds
  • Utilizes Primary Care Nursing model
  • LPNs and LPN-Cs also work on the floor
Requirements
  • Active RN license (GA or compact) required
  • BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required, including at least 1 travel assignment
  • 2 years of specialty experience required
  • Experience at a large, high-acuity, high-turnover, fast-paced hospital required;
    Critical Access Hospital (CAH) experience not accepted
  • Strong focus on patient satisfaction, quality of care, and patient safety required
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care using a Primary Care Nursing approach for a diverse med/surg patient population
  • Scrub requirements:
    Caribbean Blue top and bottom, or White top with Caribbean Blue bottom, or all white top/bottom
  • Nails may only be polished; no artificial or shellac nails permitted due to increased CLABSI risk
  • No bags allowed at the nurses' station; lockers with personal locks provided
  • Strict attendance policy enforced
  • Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for placement
  • Not eligible for placement if previously employed by the facility within the last 12 months
  • First-time travelers considered for this position
