Organizational SettingThe main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by the FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
The position is located in Zugdidi, Georgia.
Reporting LinesThe Junior Food Technologist will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative of Georgia and the overall supervision of the FAO Programme Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Head of the FAO Project Office in Zugdidi. The incumbent will technically report to the FAO Food Safety Expert/Project Manager for Samegrelo.
Technical FocusSupport the implementation of Farmer Field School (FFS) activities in Samegrelo Zemo‑Svaneti under the Dairy and Fruit & Vegetable (F&V) processing components of the project. Contribute to the organization and delivery of farmer trainings, field demonstrations, and dissemination activities, while supporting the adaptation and development of training materials, curricula, and educational tools. Coordinate activities with Lead Farmers, implement monitoring and evaluation activities, prepare project reports and support procurement‑related technical tasks in line with the project work plan and FAO procedures.
Tasksand responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver training sessions within Dairy and F&V FFSs in Samegrelo.
- Disseminate information about the project amongst daily and F&V farmers in rural communities and explain the Farmer Field School approach.
- Support the identification of new Lead Farmers in Samegrelo Zemo‑Svaneti with whom collaborate in the establishment of FFS, based on the criteria for selection of Lead Farmers.
- Identify together with the Lead Farmer neighbour farmers who will participate in the FFS as Student Farmers.
- Collect data using ZOHO about all field activities and surveys for the project, in coordination with Monitoring & Evaluation specialists.
- Support the preparation of training materials and PPT presentations for the FFS sessions and master classes, updating and renewing the dairy/F&V processing curriculum, based on the feedback from the farmers.
- Implement pre and post tests after all trainings, and analyse the data of knowledge improvement.
- Be aware in detail of the project activities, participate in all project coordination meetings, and propose adjustments and proposals for the regular revision of workplan, logframe, MEAL plan and Communication Plan.
- Prepare draft narrative reports.
- Prepare visibility materials, including human stories, articles and posts about the project activities.
- Contribute to the preparation of procurement plans, and participate in the procurement process, including preparation of technical specifications, identification of possible suppliers, and provide technical revision of proposals as required.
- Support the Head of the Project Office in Zugdidi on the management of storage.
- University degree in Food Technology
