Summary:
The Electrical and Low Voltage Wiring Technician installs, terminates, labels, tests, and troubleshoots low-voltage cabling and related infrastructure within an active hospital environment. This role supports critical clinical and facility systems (e.g., nurse call, access control, CCTV, fire alarm interfaces, paging, BAS/controls, Wi Fi, and structured cabling) and may assist with related electrical installation tasks within scope (e.g., device power supplies, pathways/supports, and coordination with licensed electricians) while maintaining strict safety, infection-control, and patient-privacy requirements.
The technician coordinates work with Facilities, IT, Security, clinical stakeholders, and construction teams to minimize downtime and disruption to patient care.

Job Summary The Electrical and Low Voltage Wiring Technician installs, terminates, labels, tests, and troubleshoots low-voltage cabling and related infrastructure within an active hospital environment. This role supports critical clinical and facility systems (e.g., nurse call, access control, CCTV, fire alarm interfaces, paging, BAS/controls, Wi Fi, and structured cabling) and may assist with related electrical installation tasks within scope (e.g., device power supplies, pathways/supports, and coordination with licensed electricians) while maintaining strict safety, infection-control, and patient-privacy requirements.
The technician coordinates work with Facilities, IT, Security, clinical stakeholders, and construction teams to minimize downtime and disruption to patient care.
Qualifications High School diploma. Required Work Experience One or more years’ experience installing and terminating low-voltage cabling/systems in commercial or healthcare settings. Required One or more years’ experience structured cabling standards and best practices (TIA/EIA), labeling, and cable management. Required One or more years’ experience with electrical concepts relevant to low-voltage systems (e.g., power supplies/transformers, grounding/bonding, circuit identification) and ability to work safely around electrical systems.
Required One or more years’ experience reading basic construction drawings and following written installation standards and work orders. Required One or more years’ experience using test equipment (tone/probe, multimeter, cable certifier); ability to interpret results. Required One or more years’ experience with applicable codes and requirements (e.g., NEC Article 725/800, fire stopping, pathway/support rules) while also following hospital-specific standards. Required One or more years’ experience working in an active hospital, including infection-control coordination (ICRA) and after-hours cutovers.
Preferred One or more years Fiber optic splicing and testing experience (fusion splicing, OTDR/OLTS). Preferred One or more years’ experience with nurse call, access control, CCTV/VMS, paging/intercom, or BAS controls. Preferred One or more years’ experience installing pathways/supports (cable tray, conduit, innerduct) and coordinating electrical power drops with licensed electricians. Preferred One or more years’ experience with fire stopping methods and documentation.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications State Licensed Electrician or documented experience working under a licensed electrician on applicable tasks. Required Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) Preferred Manufacturer specific certifications (e.g., Comm Scope/Panduit/Leviton). Preferred OSHA 10 (Construction) or equivalent safety training. Preferred Essential Functions Install, route, secure, and support low-voltage cabling (Cat6/6A, fiber, coax, multi-conductor) in ceilings, walls, racks, conduits, and cable tray per code and hospital standards.
Terminate and dress cables on patch panels, jacks, 66/110 blocks, fiber panels, and device endpoints; verify pinouts, polarity, and bend-radius requirements.
