Equipment Operator
The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring on a continuous basis for an Equipment Operator. The purpose of this position is to operate heavy equipment used by the departments of Environmental Control and Public Works to perform minor preventative maintenance.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Essential tasks include maintaining and operating one or more of the following types of vehicles or equipment: buses, front-end loaders, tractors, mowers, dump trucks, backhoes, boom trucks, motor graders, track loaders, excavators, lowboys, bulldozers, spray trucks, and sweepers. Keeping logs and filing reports as required, operating heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner, providing park maintenance including mowing, edging, weeding, blowing walking trails off, tree & limb removal, plumbing, carpentry, irrigation repairs, concrete work, playground equipment maintenance, and maintaining pond levels.
Assisting building shoulders on the roadways, along with any other type of road construction work necessary, directing traffic on worksites, and preventative maintenance on mowers and small equipment. Performing related work as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of experience operating light equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performing medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Involves routine and frequent exposure to bright/dim light;
dusts and pollen; extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions; extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife; vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors; traffic; moving machinery. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
