Description
The Dougherty County Public Works Department is hiring on a continuous basis for a Laborer. The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently perform skilled and unskilled work such as carpentry, masonry, construction, and custodial. The employee may be responsible for mixing cement, laying bricks, operating power saws, maintaining grounds, assisting with road construction, performing custodial and housekeeping assignments.
Work may vary depending upon assigned department. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
- Performs work in accordance with established quality and safety standards.
- Uses county vehicle to make deliveries, pick-ups, haul equipment and supplies.
- Performs light repair work.
- Cleans offices, garage area, and bathrooms.
- Assists with road construction such as patching potholes.
- Aids with the installation of drainage and water pipes.
- Operates various gas-powered tools such as chain saws, packers, concrete saw, and cement mixer.
- Operates hand tools such as a shovel, pick, axe, concrete finish tools, and carpentry tools.
- Removes and discards road kill and obstructive debris.
- Redirects traffic when trucks and other equipment obstruct roadway during work completion.
- Responsible for litter control onsite and on roads.
- Maintains grounds.
- Responsible for vehicle detail and completing fuel tickets.
- Works in conjunction with inmates for work detail.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent (Not required but preferred).
- One (1) year of related job experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Special Certifications and Licenses- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
