Mechanic II
The Dougherty County Public Works department is hiring for a Mechanic II. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repairs on all county vehicles and equipment. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Essential tasks include using diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems on vehicles, servicing vehicles according to established routine maintenance, performing general repairs on county vehicles including heavy equipment such as repairing brakes, replacing and repairing engines and transmissions, repairing electrical and air conditioning systems, maintaining service logs and records, performing general maintenance on small engines, keeping work area clean and tidy, possessing own tools, and performing related work as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year of experience in gasoline/diesel mechanic or small engine repair or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Supplemental information includes physical demands that involve walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects, and exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, and animals/wildlife. Special certifications and licenses include a valid state Class B driver's license and a Hazardous Material Endorsement (HME) desired.
