Position
The purpose of this classification is to operate a transit system bus to safely transport passengers on an assigned route as directed.
Duties- Drive transit system bus to transport passengers along assigned route; observe traffic safety rules; maintain transit schedules.
- Greets boarding passengers; collects fares and transfers; ensures passengers enter and exit bus safely; provide information/directions; maintain order on bus; assist elderly and passengers with disabilities as needed.
- Perform pre-trip inspections; sweep bus daily and empty trash cans; fuel bus as directed.
- Prepare accident reports, vehicle maintenance reports, and incident reports; maintain accurate passenger count; submit to supervisor.
- Respond as appropriate to emergency situations or vehicle breakdowns.
- Consult with other operators regarding transfers.
- Operate two-way radio to provide information or receive advice/direction.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; additionally, two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving bus driving required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).

- Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to communicate a variety of reference and descriptive data and information.
- Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. May include counting, recording of counts and basic measuring.
- Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
- Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
- Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks may require the ability to perceive and discern colors or shades of colors, sounds, odors, depths, textures, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks may require the ability to communicate orally.
- Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
