About the RoleThe Project Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for assigned projects, assisting in budget preparation, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Responsibilities- Maintain accurate financial records for assigned projects, including contracts and invoices
- Assist in preparing project budgets and entering data into the accounting system
- Monitor and review project costs and determine appropriate revenue recognition
- Perform month-end and year-end close tasks: reconciliations, variance analysis, financial statement support
- Prepare and issue client invoices in accordance with contract terms
- Generate client statements and follow up on outstanding balances
Collaborate with Team Leaders and Project Managers to ensure alignment on project budgets and billing status - Support audit preparation by providing reconciliations, schedules, and source documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience working with accounting and billing systems
- Experience with New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) projects is required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Project Accountant
- Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit revenue recognition principles
- Proficiency in Deltek Vision or Deltek Vantagepoint is required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, reconciliation management)
- Experience working with multisource revenue streams and billing workflows
- Strong analytical and variance-analysis skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with senior leadership
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and internal-control awareness
- Experience with Surveying projects
