Position: Auditor 1 /Trainee (NY HELPS)
Location: City of Albany

Duties Description

Working under direction of an Auditor 2, Auditor 1 will perform the following duties:

  • Participate as a team member in planning and performing a full scope of

General IT and IT Access audits.

  • Participating in developing audit programs
  • Analyze data to establish an audit sample.
  • Perform analysis of data to support IT audit findings
  • Assist in audit review process and summarize meetings through minutes
  • Perform testing of controls and summarize findings using the five elements of

a finding

  • Collaborate on reporting audit findings
  • Develop clear audit work papers that support the audit findings
  • Monitor open recommendations for implementation
  • Assess and evaluate IT processes for risks and make recommendations to

establish or strengthen IT controls

  • Assist the Auditor 2 with Teammate functionality. Provide IT support to Internal

and External Audit when needed.

  • Build and nurture key management and business relationships.
  • Drive IT audit initiatives, special projects, and improvement initiatives.
  • Perform any other audit related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply and complete a probationary period.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.*

Minimum Qualifications

Auditor Trainee 1 - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.

Auditor Trainee 2 - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.

Or
  • Substitution: A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation.
Auditor 1

Auditor 1 - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation; or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.

Or
  • Substitution: A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles;

    or a currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State.
