The Department of Financial Services is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Accountant in Office of Financial Management. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Enters daily cash receipts and maintains familiarity with various regulations and sections of Insurance Law/Financial Services Law and the fees/taxes associated with each;
- Reconciles cash receipts and maintains a working knowledge of reports; detects errors and takes necessary steps to correct them;
- Applies knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), concepts, and practices;
- Verifies, classifies and codes financial transactions for input following GAAP and applicable laws, rules and regulations;
- Assists higher-level accountants with various duties involving assessments under the Financial Services Law and other statutory filings and taxes;
- Assists with new and upcoming assessments and billings;
- Updates or assists in updating systems and procedures and supporting schedules, forms and reports in response to changes in law;
- Participates in audits of accounting and processing systems to ensure integrity of these systems;
- Responds to inquiries by telephone and e‑mail regarding bills, revenue, and accounts receivable;
- Supervises staff and perform all associated duties related to supervision; and
- Performs other duties and special projects as required.

Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for 50-002010.
Transfer:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Information regarding transfer eligibility may be available on the Civil Service Career Mobility Office website.
Please note that under Civil Service Law, an employee cannot have two consecutive upward 70.1 or 52.6 transfers without an intervening eligible list appointment if such transfers would exceed two salary grades.

Minimum Qualifications:
Trainee 1: A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses. Trainee 2: A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.
Journey Level: A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting…
