Description
Issue Sporting Licenses using the DEC Automated Licensing System (DECALS) at the DEC license sales counter and over the phone. Answer a high-volume phone line handling customer and license issuing agent complaints/issues over the phone.
Duties- Utilize the DECALS database to update customer records and generate mailing lists.
- Possess effective communication skills for answering phone, email, and in-person programmatic questions and system troubleshooting for the public and 1,500 License Issuing Agents.
- Become familiar and knowledgeable about sporting license business rules, Hunting/Trapping and Fishing regulations, and selling procedures.
- Process and prepare daily deposits of DECALS sales transactions and assist in end‑of‑day closeouts and reconciling the daily account.
- Perform basic office procedures for data entry, filing, key boarding, photocopying, hand‑carrying information to other offices, sorting, handling, and re‑routing incoming mail to appropriate offices. Prepare special mail when necessary using proper procedures.
- Answer FOIL requests for general counsel and law enforcement.
- Overtime may be mandatory during the extremely busy season, mid‑August to October, or when necessary to ensure the DECALS system functions properly and the office needs are met.
- Selling licenses at the NYS Fair DEC License Sales counter will be required.
- Assist Division or Game Management staff with mailings, typing, photocopying, or tasks deemed appropriate by your supervisor.
- Take part in system testing to ensure DECALS is functioning as expected and according to business rules.
- No minimum education or experience requirements for this title.
- Preferred:
Familiarity with using a computer and Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Access.
This is an hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine the actual termination date.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Telecommuting may be available and will be discussed at interview.
