- Receive, review, and process Death Cases opened by the automated PBI Interface Process and Benefit Information Services Bureau.
- Sort and distribute incoming mail to appropriate unit for case processing.
- Maintain scanned documents, review miscellaneous document cases within People Soft, determine where documents belong, and forward to appropriate work unit.
- Process address changes.
- Process beneficiary changes.
- Maintain electronic fax and mailboxes, distributing to appropriate unit.
- Participate in various bureau or division projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, be eligible under the 55 b/c program, or be eligible to transfer to this title under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
70.1 Transfer:
For a transfer to Office Assistant 1, SG-6, a candidate must have one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/55‑c service in an approved title. Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S‑grades or one M‑grade.
55(b)/55(c) Program Appointment:
This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
- Understanding and use of common office record keeping and filing systems and processes.
- Ability to code and decode data for machine processing and similar office processing.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret regulations, procedural manuals, and other documents used in routine office processing.
- Proficiency in using common office equipment, including alphanumeric keyboards, photocopiers, calculators, and CRTs.
- Accuracy and punctuality in task completion within prescribed time frames.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
