duties description

the incumbent of this position will be assigned to the business services center (bsc) finance, human resources, or support services office. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • assisting with bsc file maintenance.
  • processing routine transactions using various computer systems.
  • managing and distributing e-mail that is submitted to the bsc shared mailbox.
  • answering phone calls and assigning tickets in the rightnow system.
  • assisting the service line with the timely and professional completion of daily administrative activities as necessary.
  • consistently provide quality customer service to all bsc customers (i.e. Vendors, customer agencies, state employees).
  • work will require correspondence with various parties including vendors, customer agencies and other bsc staff.

  • assisting the service line with the timely and professional completion of daily administrative activities as necessary.
  • consistently provide quality customer service to all bsc customers (i.e. Vendors, customer agencies, state employees).
  • work will require correspondence with various parties including vendors, customer agencies and other bsc staff.

the ideal candidate will have experience using microsoft office software including word, excel and outlook; exceptional customer service skills; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a part of a team; strong written and verbal communication skills.

at a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that ny helps employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of new york state. While serving permanently in a ny helps title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

the business services center (bsc) was established in september 2012 to make human resources and finance transaction processing consistent across new york state government agencies. Since its inception, the bsc has increased efficiency and lowered costs across the state. The bsc supports advancement and frequently promotes their employees in consideration of their hard work and dedication to the office of general services-bsc core mission.

minimum qualifications

note: in order to award the proper credit for work experience, resumes must include month and year for start and end dates. If any of this experience is less than full time, you must indicate the average number of hours worked per week.

this title is part of the new york hiring for emergency limited placement statewide program (ny helps)
* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:

one year of clerical experience.

or: current new york state employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to grade 07 or above and eligible for transfer under section 70.1 of the civil service law.
