Position Description

Advanced Energy United (United) is currently seeking a strategic, experienced, self-starting candidate with a background in legislative work, issue advocacy, coalition building, and/or organizing, to lead United’s legislative and political engagement in New York. The New York Director will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with legislative and administrative decision-makers in New York, developing and executing on United’s New York strategy, and working collaboratively with United regulatory and policy teams to achieve successful outcomes that expand markets for the advanced energy industry.

This work will educate decision-makers and candidates about advanced energy technologies and facilitate United member company engagement in policy advocacy. Specific areas of focus may include energy affordability, clean energy and transmission infrastructure, grid resilience and flexibility, transportation and building electrification, and regional wholesale markets.

The New York Director will report to the Northeast Managing Director and will also assist the Managing Director in the development of strategy, programs, and initiatives that advance the organizational mission to grow markets for advanced energy technologies in the Northeast region.

Candidates will need to have the ability to travel occasionally to meet with United staff,members, coalition allies and stakeholders, and public officials.

Geographic focus for this position

United’sNortheaststates currently include NY, MA, CT and RI.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies, in collaboration with Advanced Energy United policy team members, to accelerate New York’s clean energy transition in the electric and transportation sectors, and meet short- and long-term policy objectives as part of United's policy portfolio. These could be legislative, administrative, or regulatory, or a mix of all three.
  • Work with Advanced Energy United member companies to develop policy positions and reach consensus on positions on key issues.
  • Manage lobbyist and consultant relationships on the ground and their engagement in legislative matters and/or communications strategies.
  • Organize member opportunities for direct decision-maker engagement including lobby days, legislator and candidate education, earned media, and participation in legislative, regulatory, and administrative processes, as needed.
