A growing civil contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of heavy civil and site development projects. This is a high-impact role for someone who understands how work gets built in the field and can stay ahead of every moving part from kickoff through closeout. The right person will be deeply comfortable managing excavation and site-related work, staying on top of project controls, and driving execution across RFIs, change orders, permits, utility coordination, and day-to-day issue resolution.
You do not need to be on-site full-time, but you do need to understand the work well enough to know exactly what is happening and what needs attention before it becomes a problem. This is a great opportunity for a strong operator who wants real ownership, meaningful responsibility, and the ability to make an impact across multiple projects.
- Take full ownership of projects from award through closeout
- Manage project budgets, forecasting, cost tracking, and overall financial performance
- Stay ahead of RFIs, submittals, project documentation, and issue resolution
- Lead change order management from identification through pricing and execution
- Coordinate with field teams to ensure work is progressing safely, efficiently, and in line with plan
- Track production, quantities, material movement, and project cost impacts
- Ensure critical project administration is handled properly, including utility coordination and required tickets/notifications
- Work closely with subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and clients to keep projects moving
- Identify risks early and take action before they impact schedule or margin
- Support estimating or preconstruction efforts when needed
- Strong experience in excavation, sitework, earthwork, underground utilities, or heavy civil construction
- Proven success as a Project Manager on actively managed field-driven projects
- Clear understanding of how projects are built, sequenced, and executed in the field
- Hands‑on knowledge of change orders, RFIs, quantities, utility coordination, and project controls
- Comfortable balancing office‑based management with close involvement in project execution
- Strong communication skills and the ability to keep multiple jobs organized and moving
- Estimating experience or willingness to support estimating is a plus
- You know the field, not just the paperwork
- You stay on top of details without losing sight of the bigger picture
- You are proactive, organized, and accountable
- You can manage multiple projects without letting things slip
- You are confident working with superintendents, owners, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams
- You take pride in ownership and follow-through
- Strong compensation for the right level of experience
- Real ownership of projects and visibility into operations
- Diverse, technically interesting work across heavy civil and site development
- Stable contractor with a solid project pipeline and long-term opportunity
- A role where practical construction knowledge is genuinely valued
